A Monochromatic Floral Card with Blossom Medallion | Stephanie Guse

Hello, cardmakers!

It's Steph here, and I'm back today with another floral card - my absolute favourite kind to make! This time, I wanted to challenge myself to create a monochromatic design using one of my current favourite stamp sets, Blossom Medallion. I started by creating a subtle background pattern, then layered several shades of green ink to bring the florals to life. The result is a fresh, dimensional, nearly one-layer card that shows just how beautiful a monochromatic palette can be. Here's how it came together.

How to create this card:

1. 1. Create an A2 side-folding card base from white cardstock.

   2. Cut an A2-size panel from white cardstock.

   3. Using Spruce Tips ink and the two floral bouquets from the Blossom Medallion set, stamp a background pattern onto the white cardstock panel.

   4. Use the coordinating stencils to ink-blend the floral background, using different shades of green to create a monochromatic design.

   • Stencil 1: Small bouquet – Fresh Pear; large bouquet – Sage

   • Stencil 2: Small bouquet – Grassy Knoll; large bouquet – Eucalyptus

   • Stencil 4: Bottom Right Leaves – Key Lime

   • Omit stencils 3 and 5.

   5. Use the Blossom Medallion Press Plate to hot-foil the “grateful for the ways you show up for me” sentiment in gold on white cardstock.

   6. Die-cut the sentiment using the coordinating die, along with two additional die cuts.

   7. Adhere the additional die cuts behind the foiled sentiment using liquid adhesive to add some extra dimension.

   8. Use the Cottage Frames Press Plate to hot-foil the simple oval frame in gold foil onto white cardstock.

   9. Die-cut the foiled Cottage Frame using the smaller of the coordinating dies.

   10. Die-cut a piece of Gold Glitter cardstock using the larger of the coordinating Cottage Frames dies.

   11. Adhere the foiled sentiment to the center of the foiled Cottage Frame with liquid adhesive.

   12. Adhere the foiled Cottage Frame to the Gold Glitter frame using foam adhesive to create a dimensional sentiment panel.

   13. Finally, adhere the completed sentiment and Cottage Frame panel to the center of the A2 card panel using foam adhesive.

And there you have it! This card is quick and simple to make, but I love how much impact you can get from such a limited colour palette. It’s also a great little exercise in paying attention to the subtle differences between ink shades—sometimes just a small change in tone is all you need to add depth, dimension, and interest to a design.
