A Playful Butterfly Layout Full of Movement | Susi Becerra

Hello crafty friends! Today, I'm sharing a new 12 x 12 layout created with the beautiful Fresh Start collection from Pinkfresh Studio. For this project, I wanted to create a soft and dreamy composition using a simple white envelope as the focal point of the page.

To decorate the layout I fussy cut lots of butterflies from one of the patterned papers and arranged them as if they were flying out the envelope. I also added hand stitching to create delicate movement lines and extra texture across the background.

Step by Step

1. Prepare the envelope. Start by placing a regular white envelope in the center layout. open the flap so you can tuck embellishments and butterflies inside later. The simple element becomes the main focal point on the entire design.
2. Create the stitched details. Using a piercing tool and embroidery thread create hand stitched swirls coming out from the envelope area. These stitched lines help guide the eye around the page and create a sense of movement , almost like the butterflies are floating across the layout.
3. Fussy cut butterflies. Next, fussy cut butterflies from the patterned paper. Mix different sizes and colors to make the composition feel more natural and dynamic.Fold the wings slightly upward to add dimension and realism.
4. Build the butterfly cluster. Now start arranging the butterflies around and above the envelope, creating the effect of butterflies flying out from inside. 
5. Add the photo and embellishments. Place your photo inside the envelope and decorate around it using small embellishments, phrases, die cuts... and enamel hearts from the collection. I also tucked a few tiny details inside the envelope to make the composition feel fuller and more playful.
6. Finish with the title. Complete the layout by adding your title underneath the envelope area. Then add enamel dots and a few extra butterflies scattered around the page to connect all the elements.

TIP

When creating layouts with lots of fussy cut elements, try mixing flat embellishments with dimensional ones using different thicknesses of foam adhesive. You can also slightly the butterfly wings for an even more realistic effect.
