Chromatic Stitch Integration for Balanced Layouts | Camino García

Today I'm sharing a new layout using the Ordinary Joys collection. A stitched scene can turn a simple page into a little world, and that’s exactly what this layout does with the beautiful Ordinary Joys palette. Soft tones, gentle contrasts, and layered die‑cuts come together to frame the photo as the heart of the story.

STEP BY STEP:

1-Create the background. First, punch holes along the outline of the design you want to embroider. Choose 5 or 6 colors from the collection's palette and embroider the background.These stitched paths create movement and guide the eye toward the central cluster. The texture adds quiet dimension without overwhelming the page.

2-Build the Scene. Next, fussy‑cut florals, leaves, and small icons from the collection. Instead of placing them flat, shape each piece slightly and layer them with foam adhesive to create soft volume. The goal was to build a tiny illustrated world... one that feels airy, fresh, and full of everyday magic.

3-Keep the Photo as the Focal Point. Once the scene was ready, you can nestle the photo into the center or wherever it fits best into the design, letting the stitched lines and layered elements naturally frame it.

4-Add the final details. Use tiny enamel dots, a delicate title, and a sprinkle of sentiment labels to complete the composition while keeping the photo as the star.

TIP:

Whenever you want to punch holes in your cardstock to embroider later, remember to use a punch with a very fine tip, so that the holes aren't visible, only the embroidery is.
